Most of the batteries manufactured in the U.S. are still alkaline batteries. The chemical reaction between zinc and manganese dioxide is where the power comes from, using an alkaline electrolyte. They are extremely affordable and come in numerous sizes, ‘AA’ being the most popular in the R/C universe for the use in radio transmitters. Many entry level R/C vehicles were powered by ‘AA’ alkaline batteries in the hobby’s early days, with the re-chargeable variety being very popular.
